Being Petty Isn’t Pretty

My beautiful and educated women of color, don’t take this personal, but we need to do better.

Yes Im talking to you. The one reading this who is currently mad at her colleague because she has more curves than you. The woman who is upset at the attention she is receiving from male colleagues. The woman who is mad because her hair extensions are longer. The woman who takes everything that is being said personal. The woman who is angry, bitter and miserable: This Is For You.

Stop praising your “petty” behavior and start seeking clinical support for your actions. It is not attractive, “cute” or becoming. Hurt people only hurt people and will continue to perpetuate a cycle that will infect the world. You wanna raise a Queen, learn how to wear the crown first.
This piece is personal for me because of the catty behavior I continue to witness by women of color at my job. I really hope that one day we can stop internalizing the behaviors of others and start being held accountable for the nasty things we say and do to other women.

The world is already tough. Being a woman and one of color comes with a multitude of challenges. Let’s create more unity, peace and be the example we want to see in the world. ❤

More Like Mrs. Michelle Obama

There are people in this world who we admire, make us better, who we gain inspiration from. For me, my mother is definitely number one on my list. Not because she is my mother, or the woman who gave birth to me but because she offers me so much wisdom and she is the person who taught me how to LOVE. It is because of her, I can show that LOVE to others. I wanna talk about another woman who the nation has grown to love over the past 8 years: Mrs. Michelle Obama.

This incredibly amazing woman has exemplified what beauty, intelligence and grace truly means. She is not just the wife of President Obama, she created her own lane.

She launched “Let’s Move!”, bringing together community leaders, educators, medical professionals, parents, and others in a nationwide effort to address the challenge of childhood obesity. This initiative has changed the lives of our youth nationwide giving families the resources to make better decisions about their child’s nutrition. She has made having a healthy lifestyle a necessity.

She has been coined the most stylish First Lady in history. When Mrs. Michelle Obama comes through, you better make room! She demands attention upon entry and she keeps her mane “on fleek”. Her diction, her poise and confidence is what all women should emulate.

I am truly blessed to have witnessed a woman who looks like me become the first Lady of theUnited States. What she has done for our nation will carry on for generations to come. It is our duty as women to inspire and plant seeds of wisdom and continue the legacy that has been set forth by Mrs. Michelle LaVaughn Robinson Obama. We shall uplift other woman as well as our young girls of the world. Be more like Michelle and you will move more into LOVE.❤

Today is the Day

What is it about the start of a new year that gets everyone excited? Is it the possibility to start something you never got a chance to? Checking things off that long “to do list”?
Well the time is now. Let’s materialize what we want to happen and stop waiting for the ball to drop. Our time on this earth is not promised. We don’t know when God will call us home. Waking up, breathing in this air and being apart of this world is a privilege not an entitlement.
You want to see other parts of the world? Well book that trip today. You want to start your own business? Get your draft and resources together and start today. You want to start your own blog, get on line, write your piece and hit submit today. You wanna lose weight, get off the couch and start doing some jumping jacks today.
If 2016 has taught me anything it has to be to “Seize the Day” . Don’t you let another minute go by without making your dreams a reality. I have seen so many young, women of color taking matters into their own hands and owning this world. Becoming entrepreneurs, turning their passion into something profitable. All it takes is effort, consistency and time. Let us be better about how use our time. Let us continue to have people in our circle who will take us to the next level as well as hold us accountable for our actions.
If you are reading this, I hope that this year brings your more opportunities and gives you the resources to be the best. All that you want to be is up to you. You determine your limitations. Be better than you were yesterday. Be a goal setter and a goal getter. Wishing you more peace, LOVE and light for the 365 days ahead. ❤
