New Year: Thirty Deuce

  1. So along side a special someone coming into my life, this summer I celebrated my birthday. This is also something I look forward to this season . A celebration of birth is like hitting the reset button on your life. Its your personal “new year”. Set new goals you want to obtain for yourself. I always have enjoyed celebrating my birthday. Now that I have reached the age of 32 (ThirtyDeuce) there are some “major keys”🔑🔑🔑 I wanted to share with you all.
🔑1. What you put out is what you shall receive.

I didn’t fully believe this until this year. I am constantly reminded of the person I am through the ppl I surround myself with. Not only are they good to me but they are directly an extension of me. The love and the appreciation I was shown for my birthday was more than I expected. It started with a couple of my girlfriends taking a wine tasting tour with me in the Hamptons. (If you haven’t done a wine stating tour, I suggest you do one before the season is over!) From my students getting out of their classrooms to make it to my office to send me a warm greeting to my coworkers laying out a huge spread of caribbean food with a beautiful bouquet of flowers. I have always been a fan of LOVE and I truly believe the best way to receive that is how you treat others.

🔑2. LOVE Yourself

What you listen to, what you read and what you eat can make an impact on yourself. You show LOVE to yourself by what you allow to take up space in your heart, mind and body. I have learned that taking the time to nourish, cultivate and feed every part of you will automatically lead to a better you. How do you talk to yourself? Are you using positive words of affirmation? Do you spend time looking at your reflection ? Taking in the beautiful being God has created? If you have not done so yet I suggest you get a head start. Remember to LOVE another is to first LOVE yourself.

🔑3. Have Faith & Keep The Faith

Yes. Yes. And Yes. I cannot stress this point enough. Having faith is so crucial to our everyday existence. We live in a world that is unknown, unforeseeable and

our path uncharted. I believe that the Lord is truly our flashlight throughout life. He is the one who sharpens our vision and He knows when to brighten our light. Believe that everything your going through is preparing you for your next step, your next phase, your new chapter. Grab your faith like you do your favorite shade of lipstick and never let it go.

May these keys be a blessing to you as they are for me and take you into your next steps in life. For all those who have a birthday coming up, I wish you a Happy Rebirth and New Year!!❤️

If He Can Wait, You Can Wait

So if you tuned into Love and Hip Hop New York last Monday you witnesssed the union between Remy Ma and Pappoose. I usually don’t write about reality shows but this is a story line that spoke to my heart.
Rapper Remy Ma was locked up for the past 7 years. She was released sometime last year where she was welcomed by her husband Papoose and her family. This has to be one of the hardest transitions for any individual to make. Being stripped from all that you love with hopes that the same people will be there for you once you have done your sentence. But like the “phrase says, “you do the crime you do the time”. One thing that has always remained a constant in Remy Ma’s life is her man Papoose.
His abiity to hold on, be there, and protect his woman is nothing short of amazing. All he could do during this season was “Wait”. This allowed for them to connect on a deeper level. It was an opportunity for them to get to know each other. Deepen their communication that far exceeded the physical. He exhibits a level of patience and understanding that no one I know has exemplified.
Why do I bring this up? Or make it a point to capture in words? You never know when God will test your faith. Test your relationship. Take you to a place you never thought you could go. But when the LOVE is strong there is no mountain that one can’t climb. There is no hurdle to high enough. It is in you time of “Wait” where you go through the most trials and it is your ability to handle yourself and remain steadfast.
To be patient and “Wait” is mind over matter. We don’t realize that we can accomplish and get through anything if we put our mind to it. We allow the people around us and the elements in society to often cloud our judgement. I’m sure there were people in Paopoose’s life who told him it would never work, and brought a whole lot of negativity to him while he was in his “waiting” season. But his ability to not waver makes him an incredible partner.
God might have you in a “waiting” season right now. Don’t be discouraged or dwell on feelings of loneliness but think of how much of a better person you can become in this time. Take this time to reflect, build a better relationship with God, your family, friends and most importantly yourself. Remember, great things comes to those who “Wait”.❤️

Twenty “Sweet” Sixteen

We are two days into the new year and let me tell you, it feels GREAT!
I really can’t describe this feeling but it is like I have a rush of butterflies fluttering around in my heart. Something just feels different. Maybe I am different. I think I have such a better understanding of who I am and what my purpose is on this earth. I have a strong core of friends and family that I love dearly. I have done a good job at screening what needs to stay and what needs to go out of my life. So my theme for this year is: Investment. Consider yourself the ultimate investment. If you do this, you will be careful to choose who and what you give you’re time to.

Make sure that you are becoming richer as a result of of the investment. You are growing in your friendships, personal and professional relationships and even in conversations. Yes, a conversation is the sharing of ideas and thoughts and words that takes place with at least one person. What we hear and listen to has an impact on how we feel. Our mental and personal health is also vital and should be strengthened, conditioned and restored on a daily basis. It is vital that we look to receiving the best product of ourselves. This all happens by what we invest in.

This year I want you to make smarter decisions in what you invest in.

If it does not make you grow, Let It Go.

Take more chances, make better financial choices, see another part of the world, eliminate fear from your heart and trust in the Father up above.

Believe in LOVE and know that your special someone is coming.

Cheers to Love, Life and the continued pursuit of happiness! ❤️

The Summer of Love

It has been an amazing ride this summer. I had a chance to witness LOVE up close and personal at two wedding! I was in such awe with the way the brides looked at their grooms with such amazement and admiration. There was a peace that came over them, like the calm after a storm. They decided in front of God, with the witness of their family and friends, to commit their lives completely to their partners.

One wedding took place in Miami on August 15th at a beautiful hotel called “The Edition”. Everything was so hot, glam and filled with fabulousness. Every sparkle, every candle illuminated the room giving way to elegance and sophistication. The All Black Wedding brought everyone on one accord with our eyes fixated on the bride and groom who were dressed in white. My friend since the 8th grade and her husband ended the night thanking all her guests for coming and took the opportunity to recite their vows which I like to call “open love letters”. One thing she said that stuck out is, “Put your faith in God, and with him all things can be possible” She went on to emphasize had it not been for him, she would not be standing here in this moment.

This past Saturday, August 22nd, my grad school mate turned friend walked down the aisle at the beautiful, Woodbury Country Club in Woodbury, NY. Upon entering the venue you felt like you were on a secluded island. The venue was filled with flowers, a pond and waterfalls. Reggae music filled the speakers giving way to a lover’s paradise. Ice sculptures carved out the names of the bride and groom in a huge heart that was showcased for all the guests to see. This wedding was all about getting down and partying. Sitting down was not an option. If you’ve ever been to a West Indian event, you know this to be true. I have never seen my friend smile so bright and when I got a chance to greet her she shouted, “I got a husband girl!” She went on to say that she is beyond happy and that this man has been their for her through sickness and in health. What more can a girl ask for?!

Two weddings two different experiences but the one thing that remained the same was their foundation in friendship. Before the “I do’s”, the rings that decorated their hands, there has been a deep rooted friendship created. Which in return gave birth to their LOVE for one another. If I haven’t learned anything from these experiences is that you need to become friends with your partners. Learn how to communicate on a level that goes beyond the physical. It is about compromise, being honest and understanding.

This summer has proven to be the season of LOVE. LOVE in its purest and most genuine form. Being apart of these events gives me hope that my LOVE is around the corner, I just gotta keep the faith.❤️
