More Like Mrs. Michelle Obama

There are people in this world who we admire, make us better, who we gain inspiration from. For me, my mother is definitely number one on my list. Not because she is my mother, or the woman who gave birth to me but because she offers me so much wisdom and she is the person who taught me how to LOVE. It is because of her, I can show that LOVE to others. I wanna talk about another woman who the nation has grown to love over the past 8 years: Mrs. Michelle Obama.

This incredibly amazing woman has exemplified what beauty, intelligence and grace truly means. She is not just the wife of President Obama, she created her own lane.

She launched “Letโ€™s Move!”, bringing together community leaders, educators, medical professionals, parents, and others in a nationwide effort to address the challenge of childhood obesity. This initiative has changed the lives of our youth nationwide giving families the resources to make better decisions about their child’s nutrition. She has made having a healthy lifestyle a necessity.

She has been coined the most stylish First Lady in history. When Mrs. Michelle Obama comes through, you better make room! She demands attention upon entry and she keeps her mane “on fleek”. Her diction, her poise and confidence is what all women should emulate.

I am truly blessed to have witnessed a woman who looks like me become the first Lady of theUnited States. What she has done for our nation will carry on for generations to come. It is our duty as women to inspire and plant seeds of wisdom and continue the legacy that has been set forth by Mrs. Michelle LaVaughn Robinson Obama. We shall uplift other woman as well as our young girls of the world. Be more like Michelle and you will move more into LOVE.โค

New Year: Thirty Deuce

  1. So along side a special someone coming into my life, this summer I celebrated my birthday. This is also something I look forward to this season . A celebration of birth is like hitting the reset button on your life. Its your personal “new year”. Set new goals you want to obtain for yourself. I always have enjoyed celebrating my birthday. Now that I have reached the age of 32 (ThirtyDeuce) there are some “major keys”๐Ÿ”‘๐Ÿ”‘๐Ÿ”‘ I wanted to share with you all.
๐Ÿ”‘1. What you put out is what you shall receive.ย

I didn’t fully believe this until this year. I am constantly reminded of the person I am through the ppl I surround myself with. Not only are they good to me but they are directly an extension of me. The love and the appreciation I was shown for my birthday was more than I expected. It started with a couple of my girlfriends taking a wine tasting tour with me in the Hamptons. (If you haven’t done a wine stating tour, I suggest you do one before the season is over!) From my students getting out of their classrooms to make it to my office to send me a warm greeting to my coworkers laying out a huge spread of caribbean food with a beautiful bouquet of flowers. I have always been a fan of LOVE and I truly believe the best way to receive that is how you treat others.

๐Ÿ”‘2. LOVE Yourself

What you listen to, what you read and what you eat can make an impact on yourself. You show LOVE to yourself by what you allow to take up space in your heart, mind and body. I have learned that taking the time to nourish, cultivate and feed every part of you will automatically lead to a better you. How do you talk to yourself? Are you using positive words of affirmation? Do you spend time looking at your reflection ? Taking in the beautiful being God has created? If you have not done so yet I suggest you get a head start. Remember to LOVE another is to first LOVE yourself.

๐Ÿ”‘3. Have Faith & Keep The Faith

Yes. Yes. And Yes. I cannot stress this point enough. Having faith is so crucial to our everyday existence. We live in a world that is unknown, unforeseeable and

our path uncharted. I believe that the Lord is truly our flashlight throughout life. He is the one who sharpens our vision and He knows when to brighten our light. Believe that everything your going through is preparing you for your next step, your next phase, your new chapter. Grab your faith like you do your favorite shade of lipstick and never let it go.

May these keys be a blessing to you as they are for me and take you into your next steps in life. For all those who have a birthday coming up, I wish you a Happy Rebirth and New Year!!โค๏ธ

The Summer of Love

It has been an amazing ride this summer. I had a chance to witness LOVE up close and personal at two wedding! I was in such awe with the way the brides looked at their grooms with such amazement and admiration. There was a peace that came over them, like the calm after a storm. They decided in front of God, with the witness of their family and friends, to commit their lives completely to their partners.

One wedding took place in Miami on August 15th at a beautiful hotel called “The Edition”. Everything was so hot, glam and filled with fabulousness. Every sparkle, every candle illuminated the room giving way to elegance and sophistication. The All Black Wedding brought everyone on one accord with our eyes fixated on the bride and groom who were dressed in white. My friend since the 8th grade and her husband ended the night thanking all her guests for coming and took the opportunity to recite their vows which I like to call “open love letters”. One thing she said that stuck out is, “Put your faith in God, and with him all things can be possible” She went on to emphasize had it not been for him, she would not be standing here in this moment.

This past Saturday, August 22nd, my grad school mate turned friend walked down the aisle at the beautiful, Woodbury Country Club in Woodbury, NY. Upon entering the venue you felt like you were on a secluded island. The venue was filled with flowers, a pond and waterfalls. Reggae music filled the speakers giving way to a lover’s paradise. Ice sculptures carved out the names of the bride and groom in a huge heart that was showcased for all the guests to see. This wedding was all about getting down and partying. Sitting down was not an option. If you’ve ever been to a West Indian event, you know this to be true. I have never seen my friend smile so bright and when I got a chance to greet her she shouted, “I got a husband girl!” She went on to say that she is beyond happy and that this man has been their for her through sickness and in health. What more can a girl ask for?!

Two weddings two different experiences but the one thing that remained the same was their foundation in friendship. Before the “I do’s”, the rings that decorated their hands, there has been a deep rooted friendship created. Which in return gave birth to their LOVE for one another. If I haven’t learned anything from these experiences is that you need to become friends with your partners. Learn how to communicate on a level that goes beyond the physical. It is about compromise, being honest and understanding.

This summer has proven to be the season of LOVE. LOVE in its purest and most genuine form. Being apart of these events gives me hope that my LOVE is around the corner, I just gotta keep the faith.โค๏ธ

I’m Not A Secret

So I find myself scrolling through the wonderful world of Instagram and stumble upon a former high school mate’s page. I decided to look at her pervious posts since we recently connected. From the pictures it appears she’s doing well, likes to travel and enjoys living her life. I then see her cuddled up with someone who looks like her mate.

Her smile brightens when she is photographed with him. The captions are followed by the in love emoji:๐Ÿ˜. Making references to him being her “other half”. As you all know I’m a true lover of love so I get excited seeing these photos. She’s giving her followers a glimpse of her love life and might I add her guy is very handsome. So I find one photo where she tags his name and me being rather inquisitive, I clicked on his name. I was expecting to see remnants of him being in a relationship showing off my former high school mate. Surprisingly, I saw nothing. Not one photo. I mean not even a fingernail, no hands being held, no nada. It was as if he was a single man. Oh, but I did see a photo, of one woman. It was Kim Kardashian-West wearing a scantily clad white bathing suit which happened to “break the Internet” about a year ago.

I’m sorry, this is a problem. Am I not good enough to show off to your followers? Are you hiding that part of you giving the world the idea you are “not in a relationship”? I am not sure what pact my former classmate and her boyfriend made but as long as you have a Facebook or Instagram account, there better be a picture of me on your timeline. It doesn’t matter how I private of a person you are, you will find a way to show off the person you LOVE. I am not a secret nor did I sign up to be one when we decided to take our relationship further. I should be acknowledged on and off line.

There should be pictures filling up your camera roll as they do mine. It’s bigger than social media. It is about one taking pride in their relationship and showcasing all facets of their happiness. I deserve to feel and see the LOVE.โค๏ธ
